Who We Are
C.P.F.S. is organized as a not-for-profit, 501C3, tax-exempt, charitable, public corporation to reflect our primary desire to serve the people. Therefore, we "belong" to all the community, the churches, and the public in general. No one can "own" C.P.F.S. Officers are stewards and caretakers of the mission.
The C.P.F.S. mission is to provide professional Christian counseling to hurting people, in the name of Christ, according to their ability to pay. We seek to help as many people as possible. We will work with churches, schools and day-care centers to the degree desired and within responsible boundaries.
All counselors must be professing Christians, attached in some meaningful way to a local church.
The form of "Christian Counseling" espoused by C.P.F.S. is one which calls for a redemptive, nonjudgmental, reactive and responsive relationship with clients. We are team members of the body of Christ. We reject a "stealth" or "cloaked" evangelism approach to the counseling process. Counselors are free to share their faith (not thrust it upon others), and may use scripture and prayer, if and only if, they have received a permissive indication from clients that this would be acceptable. But our primary purpose is to provide professional help within the shelter of Christian values.
Our Name
The name, Christian Psychological and Family Services, was carefully chosen in 1975 to represent the scope of our services. We wanted "Christian" to stand in first position in order to represent clearly our value commitment, and to be found easily in the Yellow Pages. You may have looked in the Yellow Pages for Christian counselors under "psychologists" and "marriage and family counselors." We are referenced there under "Christian." Where are the others? We want to be easily found.
The word "psychological" cannot be used unless a psychologist is on staff. We, thereby, show our professional credibility by using that in our name. Along with serving families with psychotherapy, we make professional presentations to schools, churches, and other groups. We also offer family ministry programs to churches. Thus, we truly are "Christian" and "Psychological" and we provide a range of "Family Services".
Our Logo
The cross needs no explanation. This age old symbol represents the basic core of who we are. We have a sense of mission and ministry to our therapy commitment. The Greek letter "Psi" is the professional symbol of Psychology. Blending the two symbols is meant to represent Christian Psychology.
